Start with the role your team is missing. Falconer adds autonomous pressure, Guardian stabilizes dangerous rooms, and Slicer converts safe openings into burst damage. A build that looks strong on paper can still fail if it duplicates a teammate's job or leaves the squad without control.
For early runs, pick the build whose failure case you understand. Guardian is forgiving when terrain creates chokepoints. Falconer rewards target selection and drone uptime. Slicer is the most timing-sensitive of the three because every dive needs an exit plan.
