What Expenite is for
Expenite is Rogue Core's wunder-mineral. During a run, the team mines Expenite and feeds it into Ellis, the flying MULE, to unlock team upgrades at convening points.
That makes Expenite a run-scaling resource. It is not the only source of power, because Bio booster stations and Workbench stations are separate non-Expenite enhancement paths, but it is one of the clearest ways to convert exploration time into team strength.
Farming means efficient timing
Because Rogue Core is a roguelite with escalating pressure, Expenite farming should not mean clearing every possible deposit regardless of danger. A better definition is: collect Expenite when the risk and time cost are lower than the upgrade value you expect to gain.
In practical terms, efficient teams should prioritize Expenite when:
- The area is stable enough to mine without splitting the team dangerously.
- The next convening point is close enough that the resource can become power soon.
- Current weapons and Gauntlets can handle a swarm if one starts.
- The team does not urgently need a different reward, such as a weapon crate.
Expenite events
Expenite events are time-intensive missions that trigger a swarm but yield large Expenite payouts. They are the clearest known high-output Expenite source, but the swarm trigger means they are not free.
Before starting one, check whether the team can hold ground. Guardian's Stonewall Repulsor role, Falconer's Buzzard pressure, Spotter's debuffs, or Gorgon's area-control identity may all help a team survive a stationary or extended fight, though final tuning may change how reliable each option feels.
Use Ellis upgrades as team upgrades
Expenite goes into Ellis for upgrades at convening points. That wording matters: the resource should be evaluated as a team plan, not a private shopping list.
If one player is carrying the run with a strong weapon roll, upgrades that amplify that power may be worth prioritizing. If the team is struggling to survive, defensive, utility, or control-oriented upgrades may matter more than damage. Exact upgrade categories remain subject to the Early Access build, so keep the principle flexible.
Balance Expenite against other reward paths
Risk-vector choices can offer extra weapon crates, equipment crates, or artifact upgrades. Those rewards can sometimes be more important than raw Expenite.
A simple decision model:
- If your weapons are weak, a weapon crate path may solve more than another Expenite purchase.
- If your team already has workable weapons, Expenite can compound the current setup.
- If a build needs a special run-changing effect, artifact rewards may be worth the risk.
- If the team is low on safety, choose the path most likely to keep the run alive.
Known upgrade example
One observed alpha upgrade is Reloading Trick, which grants 100% crit chance on the first shot after a reload. This is a useful example of why Expenite farming matters: a single upgrade can change how a weapon sequence is played.
Farming checklist
- Mine Expenite when the team can regroup quickly afterward.
- Start Expenite events only when you can handle the swarm they trigger.
- Spend through Ellis with the whole team's current weaknesses in mind.
- Do not ignore Bio booster and Workbench stations just because they are non-Expenite paths.
- Compare Expenite against weapon crates, equipment crates, and artifact upgrades before choosing a risk vector.
